Physical model investigation of the transition of a debris flow from the aerial to the water phase

In order to study the phenomena of debris flow motion and deposition at transition between a channel an underwater storage area, experiments were carried out on physical model. The current situation planned works reproduced in two idealised 1:100 scale models. show that flows experience abrupt into water with creation wave enter lake undergoing decrease front velocity, but without creating upstream stagnation or local deposits due sudden phase change. Instead, move lower part model, where they are deposited horizontal plane parts conoid. construction retention basin does not decisively influence dynamics aerial phases. results modelling provide indispensable data for validation 3D numerical codes currently being tested.
